PiYo Transformation Tuesday





HUGE SHOUT OUT to Jennifer, who has been participating in challenge groups with my coach Alicia and myself. She is so dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle and works hard every day and it has payed off! Here is her story>>

PiYo changed my life completely. Before PiYo, I had tried many different programs, weight training, hired a trainer etc. These all had negative affects on my health and body. I have two spots of scoliosis in my back. I also have a completely messed up lower back. It has been really hard to do cardio in the past because I have atrial tachycardia and my heart would go in and out of rhythm and stay that way for long periods of time. I was convinced I would never be fit and toned like I desired because my body simply could not handle it. Then I found PiYo. It changed my life!!! It strengthened my core beyond what I ever imagined. It got me lean. It stretched my back so I started feeling awesome. Because my core was so much stronger and my back was getting stretched, I no longer was dealing with back pain on a daily basis. I wake up with virtually no pain now. I did 8 weeks of PiYo and then decided to try a PiYo/Chalean Extreme hybrid to see if my body could take the weight lifting now. I am in my 6th week of it and LOVE it. Once again, because my core is so much stronger now, I am able to handle the weight lifting. My results have been coming along even faster now. My waist and backend have never been so toned and small. I have biceps & triceps. I can even do cardio now without my heart going crazy! I think this is because my back is not putting so much pressure on my central nervous system with all the pain so some of the pressure around my heart has eased up. I am more fit, healthier, energetic & happier than ever before. I will hit 40 in just a couple of months and I feel the youngest I have ever felt.

Healthy Easter

Easter Candy Temptations





Easter is quickly approaching and Easter candy is starring us in the face each and every store we go to.  I had some friends over this weekend and were talking about buying Easter candy and what our favorites are.  My favorite Easter candy has always been Starburst jelly beans.  Then, I realized that I haven't even bought 1 bag of jelly beans this year.  I also realized that I didn't even care!  The thought never crossed my mind and I didn't crave them.  I don't feel like I'm missing out either!

It's easy to get caught up in the Easter holiday as it is with Christmas and Thanksgiving as well.  Each time we have a holiday all our rules go out the window because we think we deserve it or we will just get right back on track.  But let me tell you it is harder than you think.  Sugar is one of the most addictive things you can put in your body.  The more you eat it, the more you body craves it!


Years ago, I would indulge without thinking twice about it. In fact, I’m not sure you could even call it indulgence, as sweet treats were a part of my daily life I had the candy dish always in plain site and sugar cookies were a centerpiece on my kitchen table. They were more of the rule rather than the exception. However, after struggling with my weight, eating habits and exhaustion, I learned a few things about the effects of eating sugar that motivated me to overhaul my nutrition. That said, I admit that turning away delicious sugary goodness can be difficult, especially during social situations and holidays. When I start to break down and crave sugar, I keep the following points top of mind and I find it much easier to stay away:


1.) The positive effects of refined sugar are very temporary. Indulging in refined sugar provides short-lived joy. Yes, the taste is delicious, and it even gives you a little energy boost and emotional high. However, these effects wear off fast. Once your insulin spikes and your blood sugar plummets, you will feel terrible (see next point).

2.) Refined sugar does not facilitate your best. You’ll be a less fabulous version of yourself once the physical and mental side effects of the sugar crash begin to surface. For example, headaches, mood swings, depression and guilt, to name a few, are common side effects of indulging in sweet treats.

3.) “A little” can easily become “a lot,” “A little” refined sugar is rarely enough. A taste of it seems to awaken an inner beast that demands MORE. This inner beast is, again, a result of the blood sugar drop that I described earlier, which keeps your body in a cycle of sugar cravings.

4.) For the same calories, you can eat a lot more nutritionally dense food. Candy is high in calories and not very nutritionally dense; thus, it does little to feed and satiate your body. When considering eating some kind of refined sugar junk, I try to think of its opportunity cost. In other words, “What could I eat that would cost the same calorically?” For example, I could eat ½ cup of oats, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and ½ of a scoop of protein powder or I could eat two Cadbury Eggs for the same calories. Not only would I feel more full, healthy and satisfied eating the oats, PB and protein, that choice is also working toward my goal for improved health and a lean body rather than against it.

5.) Sugar is not a “beauty” food. In David Wolfe’s “Eating for Beauty,” he discusses how sugar damages the skin by disrupting the function of collagen and depleting one’s B vitamins, which can cause chapped lips and wrinkles. Also, sugar is widely known to cause inflammation in the body, which leads to water retention and puffiness.


If after considering all these points, you choose to do a little indulging this Easter (I get it…we all need a treat from time to time), do it smart: (1) Eat the sugary treat(s) with a balanced meal to slow down the digestion of the sugar, which will help minimize the extreme rise and fall of your blood sugar and insulin, and (2) Pre-determine a limit on how much you will consume, so you do not mindlessly and unknowingly eating thousands of sugar calories throughout the day.

No matter what you choose to consume this holiday weekend, I hope you are “taking in” time with family and friends, as that is what holidays are really all about and what will provide us true happiness and satisfaction. 

So no matter what you decide to do about indulging in sweet treats do it mindfuly.  I am planning on taking some healthy side dishes to my family events, enjoying the meal, drinking water, having a small piece of dessert and exercising just as normal.  I'm not skipping and I'm not making excuses!  I love my healthy lifestyle and I wouldn't change it for the world.

This was the second program I did after I finished T25 and let me tell you - it really works. I'm actually doing this program for the first time and I absolutely love it! I've heard a lot of feedback from some of my challengers who have completed the program and I was urged to definitely try this one! Most people know what P90X is - or have at least heard of it - so here is a little bit of info on what P90X3 is!

The gurus behing P90X3 combined exercises and added some twists to maximize your time and keep every muscle engaged for a full 30 minutes.

The base kit includes 16 workouts so you are never going to get bored. You'll get everything from cardio to strength, pilates, yoga, and MMX. There is definitely something for everyone!


Who is this program for? Everyone! It's for anyone looking for leaner muscles, tighter abs, and to get super toned. But fitness novces and experts need not be afraid by P90X's come-one-come all invitiation. You don't have to have any previous P90X experience in order to get some killer results. For the beginner, the variety of workouts in the program is the perfect start to discover your fitness style. If the move can be modified, there is a cast member showing you exactly how to do that. But don't expect to be an expert on day 1 - I certainly am not! I would consider myself a fitness veteran by now after doing so many programs, but I'm still very challenged so far starting this program! Stepfanies Transformation Tuesday

Seriously, this was an amazing day!!! WHY?!?! Because all I see through my feed is all these amazing Beachbody transformations!!! Our team, our challengers, just changing lives!!! AHHH it feels so good to be a part of this!! Stepfanie and I met at college orientation the year we graduated, decided to become roommates and have been friends ever since. Growing up we went our separate ways but beachbody brought us back together! And I am so incredibly proud of her and the hard work she has dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle! When my challenge groups start I ask everyone 'Why' they are making this choice for themselves and I help set goals and benchmarks to have ultimate success. This was Stepfanies response;

"I am doing this challenge because being on my feet at work, running around, moving patients and equipment takes so much out of me and I want to have strength and energy not only for myself at work but for my friends and family on my days off. I am sick of feeling burnt out after working a couple days in a row and essentially passing out for 12 hours just to recover. I also have been having a hard time getting quality sleep and the only time I feel I do get quality sleep is the short hours between shifts. I honestly love my body the way it is, there are few things that I am self-conscience about, and I believe that is a great starting point for this challenge. I have tried working out in the past but was never able to stick with something on a real schedule, though I did enjoy the glimmer of results that I would start to get just before my plans fell apart. I spend so much time and effort taking care of complete strangers at work, and caring about the well-being of my friends and family at home that I think I owe it to myself to take care of me and be concerned about my own well-being. I want to make a forever change in my life to become dedicated to myself, to have life-long healthy eating and activity habits to pass on to my children once my husband and I have a family of our own."

"I've always thought of myself as a thin relatively healthy person and never felt ashamed of myself. In July I started working full time as a nurse on a cardiac unit and realized 2 things 1: younger people are really sick because of poor lifestyle choices and 2: I was not in good enough shape to be working 12 hour shifts full time. I was weak and tired all of the time, but had a terrible time sleeping and just felt all around down and anxious. I started with the PiYo program in august because I needed something low impact to start with and after seeing my body change I decided to step it up and do the 21 day fix in November. I'm currently rotating different workouts from both programs. My legs arms and abs all toned up and my flexibility improved immensely. I'm no longer achey and falling asleep at work. Happy Valentines Day

Happy (almost) Valentine's Day !
If you’re a dessert lover like me, the Valentine’s Day treats on every isle can be a big problem when it comes to maintaing a reasonable physique.
Simply cutting out treats all together is just not practical.
So amidst all of this chocolate and candy, it’s time for an intervention. It’s time we mapped out our Valentine’s day survival guide…
You are worth feeding your body well.  So If your sweet tooth is getting the best of you and has talked you into buying a giant bag of BOGO candy hearts, take a moment to let this sink in…
Your health is much more important than a quick fix of sugar.
Instead of inhaling a huge amount of the cheapo treats (candy hearts, anyone?) this Valentine’s day, consider your worth and treat yourself and your family to a healthy version of your favorite dessert instead. (Shhhh…They may not even know it’s healthy!)  You’ll still satisfy your sweet tooth, but without the guilt and shame of finishing off a jumbo sized bag of candy all by your lonesome.  Been there, done that.  It is no fun at all.loveyourselfIt’s a great way to enjoy dessert and still stay on track!  :) Valentine’s day is after all a day all about love, so why not love your body a bit more with a healthy fix for your sweet tooth?!

If you're still in need of some healthy (and DELICIOUS) treats for this weekend, here are a couple of my favorites that I wanted to share with you....

REESES PROTEIN BARS

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup natural PB
  • 2 scoops FITMISS Delight Chocolate protein
  • 2 T ground flax
  • 10 drops of vanilla liquid stevia
  • 1 T powder stevia
  • 3 T unsweetened almond milk
Directions:
1. Mix in your food processor until a very thick dough forms.
2. Press your “dough” into a greased pan.
3. Melt 1/4 cup unsweetened or dark chocolate chips and stir in 1 T chocolate protein powder. Spread over top of dough.
4. Freeze for 45 minutes or until chocolate harden.

 BROWNIE BATTER “ICE CREAM” (+ Crumbled Peanut Butter Combat Crunch Bar)
Ingredients:
  • 1 scoop Delight chocolate protein powder
  • 1-2 Tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup unsweetened chocolate almond milk
  • Stevia to taste
  • pinch of sea salt
  • 1 TBSP SF FF butterscotch pudding mix
  • Ice to desired consistency
Directions:
1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
2. Top with a crumbled peanut butter Combat Crunch bar!

Directions:  Blend all together in your blender and ENJOY!

Welcome, New Coach Chelsea!




One word to define my life would be LOVE. I love my forever faithful
God. I love myself. I love my family. I love my friends and I love to
motivate, inspire and have a positive impact on others who cross my
path in this journey we call LIFE. Oh and Basketball--I sure do love
to play some basketball!!

My "Why" for becoming a Beachbody Coach is connected to everything I
love in my life.

1) I love my forever faithful God: I know in my heart I am destined to
do great things by the grace of God. I believe with His help I can
help others to a life of health and happiness from the inside and out.
Everyday is a blessing and I look forward to what He has planned in my
journey through life.

2) I love myself: Yes, I know this sounds selfish. To me, It is
perfectly okay to be selfish when it comes to my happiness and love
for myself. I believe in having healthy eating habits and working out
on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, I believe in a cheat meal as
well haha and rest days!! Who doesn't love Oreo's or Pizza...right??
Loving yourself inside and out is SO important! I believe beauty comes
from within ourselves, beyond the layers of our skin and into the
condition of our heart.I believe that self love leads to a healthier
and happier lifestyle. It is something that needs to be worked at
every single day. I know life presents us all with trials and
tribulations, but when you fight through them you become a STRONGER
person. Life breaks you down only to build you back up. With the
guidance of my support system (God, Family and Friends) I am able to
get through the roadblocks life throws at me and back on track.Through
it all I never stop loving myself...it is all apart of my journey and
my story!!

3. I love my family and friends: I have an amazing family and amazing
friends. I want to help and inspire my family and friends to a life of
health and happiness. I hope my journey will inspire and connect with
them in some way, shape, or form.

4. I love basketball: Basketball is my passion! My name and basketball
go together like Beach and Body haha or like Oreo's and Milk :)
Basketball has provided many opportunities in my life and has blessed
with amazing role models, coaches, and friendships along the way. I
was blessed to play college basketball and have the opportunity to
represent the USA playing basketball overseas in Italy. I am still
chasing my dream of becoming a professional basketball player
overseas.

Now, you may be wondering how all of these connect with my "Why." Well
these four points are my "WHYS" in life. They are my foundation and
what makes me who I am today. I keep these things very close to my
heart and in doing that I know I will be able to be the best Beachbody
Coach I can be.

With Beachbody I will be able to help others in their journey to a
healthy lifestyle all while building a business and creating the life
I WANT for myself.

What is the life I want? I want a life full of building new
relationships, sharing my story, hearing other peoples story and
creating positive opportunities for myself and others. A life where I
can help someone become happier and healthier. A life where I continue
to grow as a person daily. A life of financial freedom. A life full of
traveling and new adventures. A life where I can continue my passion
of playing  basketball. A life of giving back to others. A life of
helping my family. A life of helping my friends. A life where I am my
own boss. A life where I set my own schedule. A life where "work"
doesn't feel like "work" because it is simply my passion. A life full
of blessings. A life of sharing Gods word. A life where I can be
independent. A life where when the time comes I can be a stay at home
mom. A life that will make me genuinely happy in mind, body and soul.

That is the life I WANT and will strive to create for myself. Those
are my dreams, vision and goals for my life. We all have a different
"WHY", a different vision, different goals and different dreams, but
that is what makes us all unique and special. It is what makes YOU who
YOU are and Me who I am...someone unlike anyone else in this life. We
are all one of a kind creations--never to be duplicated. We all have a
special place in this life that only we can fulfill perfectly. I
believe it--do you? Once you do, you will be amazed at how much it can
change you life!! I have a passion for helping people, making people
laugh, loving my God, motivating others, loving myself, being close to
my family and friends, playing basketball, and simply having a
positive impact on others who cross my path in this life.

I believe in my heart that becoming a Beachbody Coach will take a lot
of work, determination, accountability, leadership, passion,
dedication, love and a positive attitude, but that journey will be
worth the reward--changing people's life in a positive way one day at
a time!
