10 Tips for shopping whole foods on a budget



If I had a penny for every time I heard, “I can’t eat healthy, because I can’t afford it,”  I would be rich!
I GET IT! I have sympathy, however…..
the truth is, YOU CAN afford it!
There are always ways to cut costs in your life, not to mention shop smart when it comes to healthy whole foods!
It may take some work, some planning, some extra stops…. but seriously YOU CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!
and believe me, YOU ARE WORTH IT!
IF you don’t spend the money on your WELLNESS, you will spend it trying to get your health back!
When there is a will, there IS A WAY! 
I suggest, eating properly, and spending the money where it matters, so you don’t have to spend it in the doctors office, on pills, insulin, and trying to get well!































TIPS FOR SHOPPING ON A BUDGET 


1.Shop in season-

Try to shop seasonal veggies and fruits!  It will keep your costs down.  Often times grocery stores will import from local farms even! Stay in tuned with seasonal produce! It not only is cheaper, but higher in nutrients!

2.Shop farmers markets/local if possible-

I am all about supporting local farmers!  Not only because I love to support local businesses and entrepreneurs, but because truthfully you will get the best for your money!  Highest quality nutrients coming straight from the farm! No shelf life, and its wallet friendly!

3.Hit up ALDI and discount grocery stores-

Aldi and other discount stores seriously have great stuff! Aldi is my favorite! They have seriously stepped up their game! You can find all kinds of great food, spices, sauces, produce here!
They have organic produce, sprouted grain, and a ton of gluten free options at a discount!

4.SHOP IN BULK when you can-

BULK can save you money!  But be wise where you buy the bulk!  If you buy too much product it will go bad! So Bulk up on Nuts, Meats (you can freeze), quinoa, seasoning, grains, beans, lentils, chicken stock.  These are all great ways to save big!

5.Don’t buy ALL ORGANIC-

Don’t buy organic when you don’t need to!  Check out my dirty dozen list!

6.Stock up on FROZEN foods-

Frozen fruits and veggies are AWESOME!  They are a great money and time saver! All of my fruit I throw into my smoothies are straight from the frozen food section!

7.Don’t be afraid of store brand-

Seriously, store brands have picked up their game!  Don’t be afraid to buy the store name, they are literally the SAME exact thing!  If you question it, compare the labels!

8.Become a leftover queen- eliminate food waste-

My secret sauce to make lunch super easy and eliminate food waste, is to make a little more dinner and eat the rest for lunches!
This makes my lunch mindless, and also helps me to not waste !
Another left over tip is FREEZE what you don’t eat!
This makes for a quick meal on nights you forget to cook, or are just too busy to make a home made meal !
A win win all around if you ask me!

9.Say NO to buying drinks-

Seriously, JUST DO NOT BUY ANY DRINKS!
Stick to the good old H2O! It will save money, and save your gut!

10. Meal plan and STICK TO THE LIST-

Meal planning, helps you to stay focused through the week on what you will eat! It will help eliminate unnecessary food intake, as well as food purchases!
When you MEAL PLAN, create a grocery list off of it. THEN DO NOT DEVIATE!
Seriously, STICK TO THE FOOD ON THE LIST! THAT IS IT!!

Now that we have talked food on a budget I have to ask you to do one more thing….

CHECK YOURSELF!


Where do you spend most of your money?
Do you get your nails done? Hair done? Do you stop for coffee every day? Do you go out to eat with friends? Do you grab drinks on the weekend? Do you grab snacks at the convenient store? Do you stop for fast food? Do you buy unnecessary trinkets?

WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING?
I promise you, almost EVERYONE can cut somewhere, in order to FEED THEIR HEALTH!

Here it is, as honest as I can be.
YOU HAVE ONE BODY! ONE CHANCE to feed your body health or death.
You are in control of 90% of your health.  Only 10% is left up to genetics.

WILL YOU keep making excuses not to take care of yourself, eat properly, and truly dig your own grave with your spoon and fork?
or
WILL YOU find a way!
Be responsible, and respect and honor your body?
Will you make YOURSELF worth it!?

I think you are worth it! I think your health is worth it!

There are a few things on life, I will not cut corners or cost on.  One of those being my health!
You better believe I will do everything I need to, in order to stay healthy and well for not only myself, but for my kids !

It is worth it to me not getting my nails done, not grabbing a coffee every time I am out, not buying that new hand bag, so I can be healthy!  So I am well, energized, have a clear mind, and am fit enough to be able to run around and enjoy my kids for many, many years!

Life or death is on the end of your spoon or fork.  Only you get to choose what you do with that 90%. Feed wellness, or feed sickness!

If you are going to cut cost somewhere, don’t let it be on your health!
Be smart in your health choices not just for your wallets sake, but for a long fulfilling life!
